Join an historic community gathering to attract public & media attention to the cause of preserving 1/2-million healthy, mature East Bay trees in the Oakland and Berkeley hills from the largest Bay Area clearcut in 100 years.
Together we will peacefully, powerfully gather, share the news that the deforestation plan will INCREASE fire danger in the hills, and do tremendous environmental damage in destroying forests, animal habitat, and poisoning land, water, birds and mammals with herbicides.

Tonight, Tell Dan Kalb - In Person - Not to Destroy Our Forests and Poison Wildlife and People

Oakland City Council member Dan Kalb, the East Bay politician who has been pushing the FEMA plan to cut down 400,000 trees and spread 7,000 gallons of toxic and cancer causing herbicides across 2,059 acres of public lands, will be at a public meeting tonight to discuss the plan with his constituents. He will be taking questions, and given his past performances on the issue, he will no doubt attempt to mislead about the scope of the devastation and the hazards associated with the chemicals slated for use. Let’s not let him do that.

Please join activists from several different organizations working to stop this pending environmental and public health crisis at tonight’s PANIL meeting at Piedmont Gardens (11th Floor, Sky Room), 110 41st in Oakland (just around the corner from the shopping district on Piedmont Avenue), from 7:30 -9:00 pm.

Be Prepared! Kalb has been downplaying the deforestation that will be wrought by his plan, including arguing that they are merely "thinning" the trees, that other trees will grow back, that minimal herbicides will be used, and that the herbicides present no danger to public health. None of this is true. Here is a quick primer on the issue we created which will enable you to respond to his misrepresentations about this and the other perilous aspects of this plan: http://goo.gl/Y0Ikix
